 
     23-2-509.  Lost or mutilated certificate. (1) If a certificate of ownership is lost or mutilated or becomes illegible, the person to whom it was issued shall immediately make application for and obtain a duplicate, upon payment of a fee of $3.
     (2)  The duplicate certificate of ownership must be plainly marked "duplicate" across its face and be mailed or delivered to the applicant.
