37-30-203. Powers and duties of board and department -- conducting examinations -- rulemaking -- hiring of inspectors. (1) The department shall, subject to 37-1-101, conduct practical examinations of applicants for certificates of registration to practice as registered barbers or barber instructors not less than four times a year at times and places the board determines. The examinations must cover the fundamentals of barbering, dermatology, and sanitation. The department shall issue certificates of registration.
(2) The board may adopt rules for the administration of this chapter and shall adopt rules pertaining to the following:
(a) the qualification, examination, and registration of license and instructor applicants;
(b) the qualification, curriculum, and operating standards for barber schools, including the supervision of barber students; and
(c) the inspection and conduct of persons and barbershops subject to the provisions of Title 37, chapter 30.
(3) A person hired by the department to make an inspection of a barbershop, school, or college shall receive a salary plus travel expenses as provided for in 2-18-501 through 2-18-503, as amended.
