69-14-210. Baggage checks. A check must be affixed to every package or parcel of baggage when taken for transportation by an agent or employee of a railroad corporation, and a duplicate check must be given to the passenger or person delivering the package or parcel in the passenger's behalf. If the check is refused on demand, the railroad corporation shall pay to the passenger the sum of $20, to be recovered in an action for damages, and a fare or toll may not be collected or received from the passenger, and if the passenger has paid the fare, the fare must be returned by the conductor in charge of the train. On producing the check, if the baggage is not delivered to the person by the agent or employee of the railroad corporation, the person may recover the value of the baggage from the corporation.
