7-4-2801. Qualifications for county surveyor and deputies. (1) Except as provided in subsection (3), a county surveyor must be a registered professional engineer or registered professional land surveyor who has been in active practice of the profession for at least 3 years and who has had responsible charge of work as principal or assistant for at least 1 year. Graduation from a school of engineering or land surveying is considered as equivalent to 2 years of active practice.
(2) All deputies must also have a practical knowledge of engineering or land surveying.
(3) When the office of county surveyor is consolidated with another county office within the county, the requirements of subsection (1) are waived. Unless the officeholder has the qualifications prescribed in subsection (1), the officer shall, with the approval of the governing body, contract for the services of a person with those qualifications to perform the duties of county surveyor.
